2025 Winner

Puget Paving and Construction

The 2025 CERC Appreciation Award is presented to Puget Paving & Construction, Inc. This company has consistently demonstrated a commitment to sustainability and has been a valued member of the CERC Community since 2024. This award recognizes their exemplary and proactive efforts in environmental best practices, ensuring not only the safety and well-being of their dedicated employees but also the long-term health and vitality of the people and communities they serve.

Puget Paving collaborated with the Puyallup Tribe of Indians on a design-build project at Firecracker Alley. Firecracker Alley is a premier open-air venue operated by the Puyallup Tribe of Indians in Tacoma and hosts a diverse range of outdoor events. These include seasonal fireworks sales, car shows, a food truck village, drive-in movies, and classes on traditional First Nations skills. The venue also serves as a significant gathering place for over 10,000 members and friends of Western Washington and Canadian indigenous peoples.

The environmentally sensitive project involved fine-grading over 10,000 tons of permeable aggregate base and placing it across the 23-acre site. Puget Paving manufactured over 7,000 tons of porous hot mix asphalt (PHMA) at its Canyon Road Plant. The completed project features 500 parking stalls, commercial vendor space, gathering areas, and access roads.

This project highlights the environmental benefits of PHMA for private developments, allowing the tribe to create a large, safe, and functional event space while effectively managing stormwater run-off. Puget Paving recognizes indigenous tribes as valued customers and economic contributors to Washington State’s asphalt paving industry and was pleased to partner with the Puyallup Tribe on this impactful paving project.
