Certified Environmentally Responsible Contractor (CERC) is a certification program that recognizes contractors who train their employees to understand and mitigate environmental risks associated with their business.

Our Story

Environmental risks associated with contracting operations have often been overlooked and left unaddressed until after a pollution incident occurs. Many jobs require contractors to provide evidence of pollution liability, however standard certificates of insurance are inadequate in demonstrating financial responsibility for pollution events. CERC is a third-party certification that streamlines the procurement process and ensures the hiring of competent, trained, and properly insured contractors. Environmental incidents at a construction jobsite have the ability to severely impact both the schedule and financing of a project. Environmental Risk Professionals has been administering CERC and raising standards for environmental best practices since 2019.

How CERC Makes a Difference

I like having the CERC certification. My company has been building civil infrastructure, water delivery, and hydroelectric projects for years. CERC certification is necessary for raising awareness on the importance of being environmentally responsible in the construction industry. I wish more owners of public works projects would require CERC as part of the contractor pre-qualification process. The public would be better served if all public works projects had high standards for quality, safety, and environmental responsibility.
