Brandywine Stormwater, LLC

The 2025 CERC Appreciation Award is presented to Brandywine Stormwater LLC. This company has consistently demonstrated an unwavering commitment to sustainability and has been a valued member of the CERC Community since 2020. This award recognizes their exemplary and proactive efforts in environmental best practices, ensuring not only the safety and well-being of their dedicated employees but also the long-term health and vitality of the people and communities they serve.

In early 2025, Brandywine Stormwater LLC (BSW) successfully completed the year-long stormwater retrofit construction project known as NPC-1,2,3. Situated within a heavily industrialized area of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the project presented a unique set of design and construction challenges. Pre-construction soil analyses identified the presence of contaminated materials, necessitating specialized treatment and disposal procedures in full compliance with environmental regulations. In addition, several unidentified underground structures were discovered during construction, resulting in significant scheduling delays and requiring adaptive field solutions.

Despite these and other unforeseen obstacles, BSW remained steadfast in fulfilling the project’s primary objective: to install underground stormwater basins designed to capture and treat runoff from more than 450,000 square feet of impervious surface area prior to its release into Philadelphia’s common storm sewer system.

Through the successful completion of the NPC-1,2,3 Project, Brandywine Stormwater LLC reaffirmed its leadership in environmentally responsible construction practices. Beyond meeting the core project requirements, BSW enhanced the system’s long-term sustainability by designing and constructing a pump station integrated with the largest of the three stormwater basins. This addition allows for the harvested stormwater to be conveyed to an adjacent manufacturing facility, where it is utilized as part of the production process. In total, the NPC-1,2,3 Project achieved a remarkable 15.72 greened acres of stormwater capture—water that is now effectively stored, treated, and reused in support of both environmental and industrial efficiency.
